Statin and Cancer

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Today, we know that satin is very dangerous. Just like the war on cancer, we have declared war on cholesterol. We have become fixated on seeing cholesterol as enemy number one to be defeated at all costs. But is our war misguided? Despite evidence that there are far greater dangers than cholesterol, the medical establishment and the media continue to focus on this much-maligned substance. In laboratory conditions, statins certainly exhibit antitumor activities in addition to anti-inflammatory ones. Studies have shown that statins can inhibit malignant cell growth and promote apoptosis.

To accomplish this end we resort to using statin drugs. Statins are among the best selling medications available. Some 12 million Americans take statin drugs like Lipitor, Zocor, Pravachol, Mevacor and others to help reduce their cholesterol levels. Unfortunately, most Americans and the other peoples are not aware of the serious side effects and dangers that these drugs cause. They do not know about chemopreventative properties of statins.

High cholesterol and heart disease kill 1,000,000 Americans every year. That’s why your doctor might be telling you to take some form of cholesterol-lowering drugs, the class of drug typically known as statins. While statins do lower cholesterol, they seem to come with a minefield of severe side effects, some of them permanent. You must know what the side effects are so that you can make a proper decision on how to achieve health; after all, it’s your life.

Despite the growing evidence, many doctors continue to prescribe these drugs to an unsuspecting public. Lipitor is the best selling drug on the market today, raking in 13 billion in sales worldwide for Pfizer, its manufacturer. While stitins do next to nothing to promote the health of its users and worsens their condition, there is no move to withdraw these drugs off the market. Rather, a spineless warning has been issued. But will that save the lives of the millions currently using them? Do not worry. Maybe you need to read more a new perspective about chemopreventative properties of statins. It’s great fro you, guys!
